Shame is closely related to feeling that we are not worthy of love and feeling worthless. That can be harmful in so many ways. We believe that harmful story can be replaced with a healthy story.
Many of us sometimes feel like we don’t belong anywhere. For those that are bi-cultural, in particular, Asian Americans, it can be frustrating to not have a home where you can just be yourself and not have to explain yourself. This is our pilot episode, a dry run, a preview of the podcast. This is our preparation to have more honest talk for healthy living. The podcast will be available on Facebook, Twitter, iTunes, and a few other places.
It took many years before I found the courage to get help for depression, because it was so hard to overcome the stigma and shame that I needed professional help. Turns out I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Having help from counseling, medication, and a community of faith has given me much healing and hope for a better life. My Dad passed away last year (May 2011) after having a strong 2.5 years before that. The stroke put him on a slow and steady downward path of declining health, first with memory loss, emotions out of control, then loss of mobility, loss of speaking. Ending with loss of life. Caregiving in a Chinese family context is filled with filial piety and love in action. It is a hard road.
